Word on the OTC Street: Countdown to the Last Day of School

As the 90 degree Lake Norman weather seems to continue reminding us, summer is here and the last day of school is right around the corner! With the last day of school for Cornelius public schools being this week, we set out to get some student and teacher perspectives on closing out another year. Let’s see what they said.

“It’s a mix of excitement and nervousness about going to college. It has been very nostalgic, I find myself thinking about earlier school years like kindergarten and the first day of middle school. My last day of school felt like a bit of a loss, not just a celebration, especially because it was the last day of me serving as Student Body President of Hough High.”

– Jhanvi P., Senior at W.A Hough High School

“I am sad about leaving Cornelius Elementary since I have been here since kindergarten, but excited about going to middle school.”

– Addison K., 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

“I am excited for 5th grade promotion, but middle school is gonna be a change.”

– Jemari B., 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

“My biggest summer plan is going to Thailand for 2 weeks with my family. I’m really excited to immerse myself in the culture and enjoy all the food! I also will be attending rock climbing divisionals and hopefully attending nationals if I place top 6. In between these things, I will be hanging out with my friends and nannying.”

– Jhanvi P., Senior at W.A. Hough High School

“Me and my family of four are going on a two week trip up to Maine and back, and are going to stop at some cool places along the way.”

– AJ L., 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

“I hope to relax this summer and travel a little, but also have plans to rework the writing curriculum for next year!”

– Mrs. Fitch, Literacy Facilitator, Cornelius Elementary School

“I am spending all of  July in Michigan to see old family in friends since I used to live there.”

–  Cassie D., 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

“My favorite memory from Senior Year was prom because all my friends knew where they were going to college, and it was just a time we could all celebrate the end of high school without any stress.”

– Luke W., Senior at W.A. Hough High School

“My favorite memories were when the fifth grade went to Washington D.C. and Kings Mountain. Both were really fun field trips.”

– Megan H., 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

“My favorite memory from 5th grade was Survivor Fun Day because we got to go through an obstacle course and have some fun before we had all of our EOGs”

– Maeve, 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

“My most memorable moment from 5th grade was Project Citizen. We collected art supplies and made bracelets to donate to the local hospital and raised almost $400.”

– AJ L., 5th grader at Cornelius Elementary School

On behalf of all of us here at Old Town Cornelius, we want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer!
Enjoy some sun, have some fun, and rest up before August!
